Grassroots Movements

The topic focuses on what makes grassroots movements successful, from the cause itself to the types of actions involved. The episodes will be centred around different examples of movements, questioning their effectivity and interviewing guests directly involved.

I am a third-year Global Law student with a passion for climate change and animal rights.

For the past half year, I studied at the University of Oslo, where I took courses in environmental law and public international law. On this podcast, you will hear me during the episodes focused on grassroots movements, specifically with regard to the fields of law mentioned above.

Hi, podcasting speaks to me because it gives a voice to people, their life experiences and concerns.

These concerns, which are, sometimes, mine, involve issues which affect everybody everywhere : working as a nurse and midwife brought to my attention the complexity of health sector related problems and as a member of the Ghent University’s Green Office team, I was further confronted with the breadth of environment related problems. These are recognized global issues.

The question became, what to do with this awareness? Comprehensive public communication could lead to a degree of problem solving but then how would the solutions be implemented? Through legislation, no doubt. This line of thought led to studies in communication, journalism and global law with the idea that this foundation would enable me be useful where needed.

This said, while issues are a serious business so is enjoyment :) : playing my violin, cooking for friends or family, hiking and reading.

I hope these podcasts will be as inspiring to you as to me.

I am a second-year Global Law student with a growing interest in financial services and cross-border transactions. For this reason, I have taken extra courses at the University of Mannheim and Antwerp University to increase my knowledge and those fields. At the same time, I have always been interested in anything that may spark debate and contrasting opinions, which explains my choice to be involved in this podcast project and especially in the grassroots movements group.
